An occasion to “strengthen those bonds of friendship and brotherhood that men and women maintain with so much effort”: that’s how Archbishop Pietro Brollo of Udine has presented to the Catholics of his diocese this year’s “pilgrimage of three peoples”, an annual event that for 26 years has involved pilgrims from the Italian dioceses of Udine and Gorizia, from the Slovene dioceses of Ljubljana, Maribor and Capodistria, and from the Austrian dioceses of Klagenfurt and Graz. Each year one of the dioceses involved hosts the pilgrims: this year it’s the turn of the Austrian diocese of Klagenfurt. The theme of the pilgrimage (on 23 June) will be: “Encountering Jesus”. “This year – explains Archbishop Brollo – the meeting of three people is being held earlier than in previous years (usually in August). The bishop of Klagenfurt, in fact is inviting us on 23 June to Millstatt, an enchanting mountain resort situated on the lake of the same name, but no less interesting for its Benedictine abbey, founded in the 11th century, one of the most famous spiritual and cultural centres of Carinthia, where we will meet”.
