“Poland has a need for an evangelical radicalism that may lead us firmly and clearly to pronounce our ‘yes’ to Christ, to his Gospel and to the principles of Christian life”, declared Archbishop Slawoj Leszk Glodz, Archbishop of Warszawa-Praga. The archbishop urged the young to make courageous decisions: they are often victims – he said – of the “poisoning” of contemporary culture, similar, in his view, to that of the “years of Communism”. Referring to current discussion on the role of teachers of religion in assessing students at the end of the academic year in Polish schools, Archbishop Glodz underlined: “We want a recognition of the value of religious education in schools. It not only presents the truths of faith, but is also an occasion to reflect on the spiritual dimension and on Poland’s rooting in Christian humanism”.
