Protestants: proposing new paths of dialogue

The Protestant Federation of France (FPF) intends to pursue dialogue with Catholics “with a view to the unity without uniformity of Christians”, says a communiqué issued by the FPF on the same day that the document on the unicity of the Church was published by the Vatican. “It is legitimate – says the communiqué – that the Catholic Church should reassure its more restless children and that it should work for its internal unity”. But according to the Protestants of France, this document of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will have “external repercussions” in that there exist “different understandings of the Church” that “still deeply divide Christians”. The Protestants thus invite “each Church” to commit itself “with as much clarity as possible to dialogue, the one path towards full communion”. “We hope and pray that each Church (and also the Roman Catholic Church!) may propose paths of dialogue, or rather take into examination the results of the theological dialogues, commit itself to a path of conversion and be not satisfied with repeating its own ecclesiological convictions”.
