Founded by Father Michel Evdokimov and by Jean Tchékan, the SOP – Service orthodoxe de presse – is now celebrating its 25th anniversary. During this period the Service has expanded “though remaining faithful to its original vocation – says an editorial – which is that of providing precise and objective information on the life of the Orthodox Church in France and in the world”. The effort of the SOP is demonstrated by the results: from the 12 pages in 1975, the SOP has grown to the current 38 pages. The distribution has also been boosted: it has expanded from the 1,300 copies distributed in 24 countries in 1975, to the over 2000 copies distributed in 62 countries in 2000. The bulletin’s reports and documents are now translated into over 15 languages. The Internet service is also valuable (www.orthodoxpress.com) on the website it is possible to access free of charge daily new stories on the life of the Orthodox Churches in the world.
