Czech Republic: ecumenical meeting of bishops

The 26th ecumenical meeting of bishops-friends of the Focolare Movement was inaugurated in Prague on 20 September. The meeting, which will continue till 27 September, is being attended by 43 bishops of 18 Churches from 19 countries throughout the world. They have come together to reflect on the theme “There’s no darkness in my night: beginning of the culture of the Resurrection”. It is the first time this meeting has been hosted in Prague. Chaired by Cardinal Miloslav Vlk, it enjoys the participation of seven bishops of the Czech Republic, including Archbishop Jan Graubner, President of the Czech Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Radkovsky of Pilsen, Orthodox Archbishop Simeon Jakovljevic and the bishop of the Silesian Evangelical Church Vladislav Volny. The meetings are being held at the international Baptist Theological Seminary. The programme also comprises visits to historic sites in Prague and a meeting with the Ecumenical Council of Churches of the Czech capital. On 23 September, the bishops will meet the faithful during a spiritual programme at the Mother Theresa Centre.
