The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church believes that the decision of Romania’s patriarchate to found three dioceses in the Republic of Moldova is a “deep violation” of the canon law which protects orthodox unity. According to what we read in a communiqué issued by the Russian Patriarchate on November 7, “the decision of Romania’s Holy Synod violates the bases on which the ecclesiastic order reposes” and “strongly damages relations between the two Patriarchates as also the unity of the orthodox in general”. The cities of Balti e Dubasari,where the Romanian Church erected its new dioceses. Similar considerations are made for the “dioceses of South Bessarabia”. “In trying to establish its power over other Countries – we read in the note – the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in Romania violated a number of sacred canons which the Fathers had agreed upon during various local and ecumenical councils”.
