ECUMENISM
On November 6-9, 240 world representatives of Christian denominations, gathered in Limuru (Nairobi, Kenya) to attend the Global Christian Forum. The meeting – promoted by the World Council of Churches following the initiative launched in the 1990s by pastor Konrad Raiser – went under the topic “Our pilgrimage with Jesus Christ the reconciler”. The WCC explained that participants discussed how they can “best promote dialogue and cooperation” between Churches for a “common testimony to the world”. Half of the participants come from Evangelic and Pentecostal Churches. The others represent Anglican and Protestant Churches (about sixty) and the orthodox Churches (25). The Catholic Church delegation consists of over twenty people. In addition to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, also Mons. Aldo Giordano of the CCEE was present. “I hope that Nairobi’s meeting will lead to renewed bonds between us and our Churches”, said Samuel Kobia, Secretary General of the WCC. Today the Forum also received the message sent by the Archbishop of Cantebury, Rowan Williams: “Our vocation to unity and common testimony requires the establishment of new fields of dialogue”.
