Against “recreational” drugsMonsignor Diarmuid Martin, archbishop of Dublin, launched an attack against recreational drugs by saying that these are undoubtedly linked to gang violence and that it would be wrong to deny it. During his address on the occasion of the religious celebration for citizenship in the Anglican “Christ Church” Cathedral in Dublin, Mons. Martin said that those using cocaine or similar narcotics must take on the responsibility for the violence they provoke. “There are those who try to establish a healthy link between the sordid network of violence and drug trafficking and the socially accepted use of so-called recreational drugs”, said the Catholic archbishop of Dublin to faithful participating in the religious function. “In considering the reality of criminal groups, the violence they cause and their drug addiction, it’s important that society as a whole take a stand. This is also what Citizenship implies.”
