The Ludwigshafen Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, from now on will be a centre for Greek-Orthodox worship. In fact, in the past few days the Church was handed over to the Greek-Orthodox Christians of the city during the Vespers ceremony. The Church had been closed a year ago after the unification of the three parishes of the centre. Metropolite Augoustinos received the document on property transfer by the diocesan administrator Msgr. Otto Georgens. Georgens defined the transfer “a new beginning for a great Church in the heart of the city of Ludwigshafen, due to changes in the Church and society, wanted by the God, agreed upon by brothers in faith, between sister Churches”. In highlighting the union between Catholics and Orthodox in the city, Georgens declared that “all us Christians, Orthodox, Evangelicals and Catholics have longtime been committed in living and testifying together our being Christians, in trying to establish unity”. Metropolite Augoustinos recalled that handing the Church to the Orthodox put an end to a long pilgrimage of the faithful from one place to another. “Thanks God”, he said, “all these years we were never alone: we found in our Evangelical and Christian brothers active and available travel companions who received us”.
