A prayer for European rulers and people to celebrate the semester of Slovenian presidency of the European Union. It was made public by the press office of the Bishops Conference of Slovenia. “God Father of all humanity – reads the text – You want us to be happy, that there is no more poverty, nor injustice, nor hatred, and that your love may unite us in friendship. With joy we see there are many European peoples who come together, erase all differences and seek the common good. We are proud and grateful that we can also be part of them”. The prayer continues directly mentioning the semester of presidency: “we have been assigned the guidance of this large family of European peoples, for this we ask your help and your blessing. Enlighten those responsible for the nations, politicians and MPs, so that, with honesty and wisdom they may seek and choose for the good of all. May concern over economic and material progress never overshadow spiritual values, which we deeply need. May the quest for personal wellbeing never make us forget those who need our help. Mary, Our Mother, we entrust all the peoples of Europe to your protection. Protect us so we may remain close to our Christian roots and to Your Son who erects us in unity as Borthers and Sisters. Amen”.
