The ten major successes of the year 2007

“Which are the Community’s ten most successful undertakings of the year 2007?”: the European Commission’s answer is found on the website (www.ec.europa.eu). In the year marking the 50th anniversary since the establishment of the Community, the most important reached objective according to the Executive is the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty, “to make the EU more efficient and more democratic”. “Another important result – according to the Commission’s place list – is the creation of new job opportunities, which has brought to an unemployment rate decrease throughout Europe, also thanks to solid economy and price stability guaranteed by a strong euro”. At the third place of successes, Barroso’s executive placed the fact of taking on responsibilities “as world leader, in the fight against global warming and its consequences”. At the fourth place the extension of the Schengen area followed by “reduced costs for the use of mobile phones abroad”. Other points refer to foreign politics, energy and consumer rights defense.
