Putting an end to the folly of violence in order to pursue justice and re-establish a more just peace and real security in the world: that’s the message that the evangelical Churches of the Holy Land have published on the occasion “of the first Advent of the new millennium”. “We live write the Churches in a tumultuous and restless time” and in a land “harrowed by injustice where terror exists in various forms”. “To free the world of violence write the Churches we must pledge to give a name to terror and condemn it in all its various forms. Palestinians and Israelis, Americans and Afghans be they Christians, Moslems, Jews or Buddhists , we must all learn to live together in a world free of suspicion, injustice, hunger, hatred and oppression“. “In response to the uncertainty to which the world has succumbed after 11 September write the Churches there are those who have chosen to emphasize the way of violence to guarantee security and peace. Here, in the Land of Palestine and of Israel, we have seen how crazy it is to seek to obtain both these things through the use of violent means”. It is only by “working for justice, by loving-kindness and by walking with humility” that the world may hope to enjoy “true peace”.
