“Contributing to the development and reorganization of the training those who provide assistance to the elderly, the sick and, in particular, sick children” is, in the view of German Caritas, a central commitment and “a particular responsibility”. “The strategic objective” according to Caritas is “to develop the quality of training for the caring profession”. To achieve it, a “new professional definition of an expert in this field” is needed. Caritas appeals to “those with political responsibility in the sphere of training, urging them, on the basis of the regulations for the admission to the medical professions, to lay the juridical foundations that may open up better prospects of common development for the caring profession in the future”. It further recommends that “the institutions given the task of training in the field of assistance to the elderly, the sick and sick children be transformed into full-time vocational schools according to the educational systems of the various Laender”.
