KEK: meeting on the European Convention

The annual meeting of the “Church and Society” Commission of the Conference of European Churches (KEK) was held in Switzerland from 24 to 28 April. In presenting its annual report, the director of communications Keith Jenkins emphasized that the aim and objective of the European Union ought to be the search for peace, justice and solidarity throughout the continent. The European Churches are regarding with particular attention the Convention on the future of Europe which, in their view, ought to lead to “wider democracy, participation and transparency in the work of the European institutions”. At its meeting in Switzerland the Commission urged that the churches and Christian communities “be equipped to have structured consultations with the European Union on political issues”.
