Young people in Turkey are in ferment. Catholics there are only a tiny minority, but events in preparation for World Youth Day are not lacking. The Turkish Episcopal Conference reports that “a preparatory meeting for the WYD attended by young people from various communities in the country Catholic Latins, Catholic Armenians, Catholic Syrians and Catholic Chaldaeans was held on 11 March”. A programme of events was agreed on. It envisages the participation of young people in Palm Sunday Mass in local churches on Sunday, 24 March. On the afternoon of the same day all young people are invited to congregate in the Catholic Armenian church of Voskeperan where the Holy Father’s Message to the youth of the world for World Youth Day 2002 will be read out.
