Young Jews, Christians and Moslems in Assisi” “

“Let’s illuminate peace”. With this slogan, young Jews, Christians and Moslems met together in Assisi on Sunday, 10 February. At the centre of debate was the document “Different identities, equal rights” signed in Rome by the three youth associations: UGEI (Union of Italian Jewish Youth), ACLI (Italian Christian Workers) and Young Moslems of Italy. In their joint document the youth urge that in Italy too “the dialogue between cultures and religions be stepped up and become a priority of the political agendas of our members of parliament”. They reject intolerance and discrimination, ask for schools to “respect differences”, and dream of “a Europe of the peoples”. On the question of Jerusalem they recall all politicians to the value of dialogue and the responsibility to build “a just and equitable peace”. “As far we are concerned – they conclude – we are willing to play our part: this document is in itself an attempt to journey part of the road together”.
