The successor of Thomas Winning as head of the archdiocese of Glasgow, in Scotland, is the 67-year-old Mario Joseph Conti. Cardinal Winning, passionate defender of Catholic doctrine even if it meant making harsh criticisms of the government, died last June. For the new archbishop it “will be difficult to gather the legacy of Cardinal Winning, who was a saint, exceptional both in gifts and in personality”. “I hope Msgr. Conti continued to succeed in taking forward everything he began and to seize the opportunities he opened up for us in the Catholic Church, and I pray that I too may not lack the courage always to say what needs to be said”. His entry into the diocese will take place with a celebration in St. Andrew’s Cathedral on 22 February.
