The main points on the agenda of the parliamentary Commissions that met in Brussels from Monday 7 to Thursday 10 January were as follows: · Changeover to the Euro Situation at the end of the first week (Commission for economic and monetary problems, rapporteur: Maaten); · Relations between the European Parliament and the national Parliaments in the construction of Europe (Commission of Constitutional Affairs and Juridical Commission, rapporteurs: Napolitano and MacCormick); · Audiovisuals and information: protection of juveniles and human dignity (Commission of Culture and Juridical Commission, rapporteurs: Heaton-Harris and McCarthy); · GALILEO, programme of navigation via satellite: phase of development, and setting up an enterprise (Commission for industry, foreign trade, research and energy, rapporteur: Glante); · Education and training: programme of work following up the report on specific objectives (Commission of Culture and Commission of Industry, rapporteurs: Martens and Zrihen Zaari); · Illiteracy and social exclusion (Commission for employment and social affairs, rapporteur: Hermange); · Enlargement: impact on regions bordering on candidate countries, support to frontier regions (Commission for Regional Policy and Commission for Social Affairs, rapporteurs: Sommer and Brie); · Citizenship of the Union: freedom of circulation and of residence for citizens and their families (Commission for civil liberties and the internal market and Commission of Culture, rapporteurs: Palacio Vallelersund and Aparicio Sanchez).
