In the course of last week the following legislative acts and communications among others came into force: · Common position (EC) no. 2/2002, of 17/9/2001, defined by the Council and deliberated in conformity with the procedure specified in article 251 of the Treaty instituting the European Community, with a view to the adoption of a Regulation of the EP and the Council that lays down general principles and requisites of food legislation, establishes the European Authority for food and defines procedures in the field of food safety (GUCE C4/18, 7/1/2002); · Common position (EC) no. 3/2002, of 27/9/2001, defined by the Council and deliberated in conformity with the procedure specified in article 251 of the Treaty instituting the European Community, with a view to the adoption of a Regulation of the EP and of the Council establishing the sixth Community programme of action for the protection of the environment (GUCE C4/52, 7/1/2002).
