The solemn audience to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Court of Justice of the European Community was held in the institution’s headquarters in Luxembourg on 4 December. Founded in 1952, the Court of Justice occupies a place of great significance in the institutional system designed by the Treaties. To it is assigned, in particular, the task of guaranteeing the right balance, on the one hand, between the respective authorities of EU institutions and, on the other, between the functions transferred to the Community and those retained by member states. In its exercise of control, the Court is often called to resolve questions of constitutional and economic character, Present at the ceremony were, among others, Pat Cox, president of the European Parliament, Lene Espersen, Danish minister of justice, and Romano Prodi, president of the European Commission. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 56 N.ro relativo : 44 Data pubblicazione : 06/12/2002
