The commissions of the European Parliament will meet in Brussels from 9 to 12 December 2002. The main points on the agenda are as follows: · New proposals for the European strategy for employment (Commission for employment and social affairs, rapporteur: Mann); · Discussion behind closed doors “Crimes against the environment” (Commission for the environment, public health and consumer policy); · Recognition of professional qualifications (Juridical Commission and Environment Commission, rapporteurs: Zappala’ and Bowis); · Exchange of opinions in the presence of the Commission on the oil slicks caused by the sinking of the “Prestige” (Commission for fisheries); · Access to documents: opening to the public of the historical archives of the Community and the ECSC (Commission for liberties and Commission for constitutional affairs, rapporteurs: Oreja and Maij-Weggen); · Discussion on the draft inter-institutional accord “Legislating better” (Commission of constitutional affairs); · Green Paper on the penal protection of financial interests and the creation of a European prosecuting council (Commission for budget control and Commission for constitutional affairs, rapporteurs: Theato and Dimitrakopoulos); · Social protection: health care for elderly persons; access, quality and funding (Commission for employment, rapporteur: Mantovani); · Company Law: take-over bids (Juridical Commission, rapporteur: Lehne).
