The 25th European youth meeting animated by the Taizé ecumenical community will be held in Paris from 28 December to 1st January. Tens of thousands of youngsters from all over Europe (some 70,000 attended last year’s meeting in Budapest) will be given hospitality in over 100 parishes in the Ile-de-France. Returning to the sources of the faith, promoting reconciliation between peoples and cultures, becoming witnesses of hope and peacemakers today and tomorrow: these are some of the themes at the centre of the Parisian meeting. The Taizé website (www.taize.fr) provides information on the event in 26 languages and also gives the addresses 200 in Poland alone where the young may enrol and reflect on the meaning of the meeting. In Italy there are over 80 contact points. In Zagreb, eight parishes of the city are preparing the young for the event. The same is happening in numerous Orthodox parishes in Romania and Transylvania. At Sarajevo the stages of preparation for the meeting in Paris are creating more fraternal bonds between Catholic and Orthodox youth. Some sixty preparatory meetings are planned in the German-speaking countries. Meanwhile, in Paris, the compaign “2 m² of warmth = a young person welcomed” has begun: its aim is to encourage Parisians to provide free accommodation to some 80,000 youngsters for the duration of the meeting.
