How many Moslems are there in Germany?

It is estimated that 2,400,000 Moslems are living in Germany, subdivided into immigrants from Turkey ( c.1,920,000), Iran ( c.115,000), the Middle East ( c.95,000), Africa ( c.143,000) and Asia ( c.127.000). The majority of them live in the western part of the country; only some 60.000 Moslems live in the former East Germany. Several Islamic organizations exist in the country, mainly of Turkish origin, coordinated by the Islamic Council of the German Federal Republic. The most important are: DITIB (Islamic Religion of the State of Turkey), an organization controlled by the Turkish authorities, with some 150,000 members; Milli Görüs, ultraconservative organization with some 26,500 members; and VIZK, association of Islamic cultural centres, conservative in outlook, and with a membership of approximately 100,000.
