“European Schoolnet” is a partnership funded by the European Commission. It brings together 25 European ministers of education and is aimed at promoting the exchange of information between students and professors through the use of the new technologies. Together with some members of the Convention on the future of Europe, it is organizing an event called “Spring Day for Europe”, a day of debate for senior secondary schools and students on the issues of how to reform the European Union. Symbolically, the date planned for the event is 21 March 2003, the first day of spring. Its aim is to involve as large a number of European schools as possible in the issues concerning the Convention on the future of Europe that is now drafting the new European constitutional treaty. Participation, also open to schools in the candidate countries, is free. The ways of participation are various: organization of a classroom debate or a debate with the classes of other European schools linked together through Internet, seminars and conferences with experts of the sector, or by making a direct contribution to the website of the Convention itself (www.european-convention.eu.int). So far over one hundred schools have registered. A press conference to present the event will be held in Brussels on 29 November.
