Germany, France, Switzerland, Principality of Monaco: just some of the countries that have sent donations to relieve the populations of Molise (Italy), struck by the earthquake of 31October, which caused the death of 26 young children and three teachers in a school in San Giuliano di Puglia, an entire town destroyed by the quake. Donations by individuals and by the Caritas agencies of various Europeans countries have also been pouring in: German Caritas, the embassy of the Principality of Monaco, Liechtestein, Switzerland, France. “I wish to thank all those who have contacted us to offer aid – says Father Ulisse Marinucci, parish priest of San Giuliano -. There’s been a truly extraordinary mobilization of support, beginning with those who have personal experience of earthquakes, for example, the populations of Irpinia and Umbria. In this moment our greatest pastoral difficulty is how to maintain contacts with the community, dispersed in various forms of emergency shelter and without any community centres or places where they can meet; that’s why we are in the process of fitting out a large tent as a temporary parish and counselling centre”.
