“The future of theology in Europe in an ecumenical perspective”: that’s the theme of the European Consultation of the theological faculties being held in Graz (Austria) from 4 to 7 July. Convened by the Conference of European Churches (KEK) and by the faculty of theology at the Catholic University of Graz, the consultation is being attended by over 50 representatives of European theological faculties and of the Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Churches. The problem of ecumenism in Europe, the challenge of interreligious dialogue and the role of women were some of the themes at the centre of the consultation. The programme also includes workshops on ecumenical education, on the quality of theological work and on joint research projects involving the theological institutions at the European levels. The inaugural ceremony was held in the main hall of the University of Graz. The guest speakers included the Lutheran bishop, Barbel Wartenberg-Potter, the Greek-Orthodox metropolitan of Vienna, Michael Staikos, and the Catholic bishop, Egon Kapellari.
