“John Paul II and his service to peace”: that’s the subject of the address that the ecumenical patriarch Bartholomew I will give in the cathedral basilica of the Holy Spirit in Istanbul on 17 June. The event has been promoted by the Nuncio apostolic in Turkey, Msgr. Edmond Farhat, in collaboration with the Turkish Episcopal Conference to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the pontificate of John Paul II. “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I declared the spokesman of the Turkish Episcopal Conference, Msgr. Geroges Marovitch has kindly accepted the invitation made to him by the Nuncio and by the Turkish bishops. It is a significant ecumenical gesture in these days in which the need for peace is great. It’s the first time that a patriarch will speak in the cathedral in Istanbul”. All the heads of the Turkish religious communities, together with politicians, businessmen, writers and journalists, have been invited.
