Meanwhile, the Women’s Table, under the auspices of KEK, has promoted a meeting in Brno (Czech Republic) on the traffic in women, from which it emerges that the women of central Europe are often the victims of violence; that they are discriminated against and exploited at work; that the rate of female unemployment is higher than that of men; that there’s an increase of female poverty and migration; and that women all too easily fall into the clutches of prostitution rackets in Western countries. 30 women from 11 different countries intervened at the meeting. The need for a closer collaboration between the Churches and the NGOs that work in this field was stressed. The organization of an ecumenical Forum of European Christian women on the traffic in women, to be held during the above-mentioned 12th KEK Assembly, was also announced.
