The fifth International Conference on ethics and environmental policies on the theme “Business styles and sustainable development” will end in Kiev (Ukraine) on Sunday 6 April. The conference is organized jointly by the Lanza Foundation (Padua, Italy) and the Ukrainian National Ecological Centre (Kiev). The concluding session will be dedicated to the ecumenical theme: “The Christian Churches and responsibility for the creation”. The participants at the conference, which began on 2 April, include representatives of private enterprise and business consortia, trades unions, churches and ecumenical groups, and exponents of the mass media. The questions being debated include: environmental policies, the ethical implications of the consumption of natural resources in industrial processes. “The challenge that businesses have to tackle in this historic period say the organizers of the meeting may be summed up in the concept of ‘eco-efficiency’, which means ‘doing more with less’, i.e. producing the same goods and services using less natural resources”.
