The Lutherans of Sweden appeal for the Middle East” “

The archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Sweden, Karl Gustav Hammar, has invited his fellow-citizens to boycott products coming from Israeli colonies in Palestinian territory. The aim of this action, he explains, is to put pressure on Israel to dismantle these colonies that are, in his view, one of the main obstacles to the achievement of peace in the Holy Land. The presence of Israeli colonies, explains Hammar, has produced such a fragmentation of Palestinian territory that it prevents the establishment of an independent Palestinian State. The appeal to boycott Israeli products was also signed by the Swedish ambassador in Germany, Carl Tham, and by a group of writers, journalists, physicians and university professors. “Buying and selling products that come from the occupied territories means supporting the illegal Israeli occupation”, says the appeal.
