In the course of last week the following legislative acts and communications, among others, came into force: Initiative of Austria aimed at the adoption of a regulation of the Council that would fix the criteria for the determination of States definable as safe third States with a view to assuming responsibility for the examination of an asylum application presented in a member state by a citizen of a third country and establish a list of safe European third states (OGEC C 17/6, 24/1/2003); Final adoption of the rectified and supplementary budget no. 6 of the European Union for the financial year 2002 (OGEC L 21/1, 24/1/2003); Decision 2003/48/GAI of the Council, of 19 December 2002, concerning the application of specific measures of police and judicial cooperation in the campaign against terrorism in conformity with article 4 of the common position 2001/931/PESC (OGEC L 16/68, 22/1/2003); Recommendation of the Council, of 2 December 2002, on the prevention of smoking and on measures to reinforce the campaign against nicotine addiction (OGEC L 22/31, 25/1/2003); Draft decision of the Council on the European Community’s signing of the Convention of the Council of Europe on personal relationships involving juveniles (OGEC C 20E/369, 28/1/2003); Amended draft directive of the European Parliament and Council regarding the protection of the environment through penal law (OGEC C 20E/284, 28/1/2003).
