The European Year of Education through sport will begin on 1st January 2004. For twelve months, the EU will promote the educational values of sport in 28 countries and reinforce relations between sport and education. It will emphasise that sport, apart from passion and competition, is able to transmit civic values and help improve education. A motto (“Move your body, force your mind” and a logo will accompany over 200 events. The decision to designate 2004 the European year of education through sport was adopted by the European Parliament and Council on the Commission’s proposal.
