“Sport: ethics and values; the campaign against performance-enhancing drugs; cooperation with the developing countries in sport; problems relating to enlargement”: these were some of the issues discussed at the informal meeting of Ministers of Sport of the 15 member states of the EU and the 10 candidate countries, held in Florence on 2/3 October. The main aim of the meeting was to recover the original meaning of sport through collaboration between international organizations. Of particular importance, therefore, is the effort to stamp out the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport: the possibility of creating institutional collaboration between the countries more directly involved in such abuses and those equipped with the most advanced laboratories for drug analysis will be taken into consideration.
