The European Commission adopted, on 24 July, an action plan for the period 2004-2006 aimed at promoting the learning of foreign languages and linguistic diversity. To achieve these objectives, it is proposed in general to use to the best the existing EU programmes of education and training to support a series of specific measures. These include: funding for the study of teaching languages to children, for transnational projects for the development of teaching aids for the learning of languages in nursery and elementary schools, and for the creation of a European indicator of language skills; incentives for the hiring of bilingual teachers, especially in primary schools; support for projects in schools that wish to adopt an approach based on the integrated learning of a content and language; creation of an internet portal of information for professionals and the public at large on available courses and on the advantages of speaking various languages; and the stepping up of information activities aimed at bilingual teachers on opportunities for European mobility already being supported by the Socrates and Leonardo programmes.———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1226 N.ro relativo : 56 Data pubblicazione : 30/07/2003
