Out of a population of over 10 million inhabitants, there are approximately 4,300,000 Catholics (41.93%), subdivided in 9 ecclesiastical circumscriptions, 3135 parishes and 21 other communities. Their pastoral care is entrusted to 17 bishops including 1 cardinal, 1364 diocesan priests, 595 religious priests, and 141 permanent deacons. There are 101 male religious, 2297 female religious, and 1364 catechists. The Church also runs 14 nursery schools with 669 places, 21 primary schools with 3890 pupils, and 31 secondary schools with 7196 students. On the level of healthcare and social services, the Church runs 20 hospitals, 8 day clinics, 38 residential homes for invalids, the disabled and the elderly, 20 orphanages, 4 kindergartens, 33 family centres and 93 rehabilitation centres.
