Lithuania: the bishops honour two journalists” “

For the seventh time Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevièius, vice-president of the Lithuanian Bishops’ Conference and member of the episcopal commission for social communications, invited the country’s journalists to a press conference in Kaunas to mark World Day of Social Communications. On behalf of the “Bažnyeios kronika” (Chronicle of the Church) Foundation, the archbishop honoured two journalists by awarding them special prizes, “reserved for those who promote the values of the Gospel and the diffusion of good in society”. The “Bažnyeios kronika” Foundation, established in 1998 with the aim of supporting the media of the Church and propagating Christian values on the lay media, takes its name from the clandestine publications of the Soviet period. This year the prize went to Tomas Viluckas, from the town of Palanga, for his own journalistic contributions, especially to the Catholic media, and, added Archbishop Tamkevièius, “for the integral witness of Christian life he has given, in spite of his serious physical handicap”. The other prize was awarded to a woman journalist who writes for the lay weekly “Veidas” in Vilnius, Dalia Jazukevièiute.
