“Cherishing Life”: that’s the new document, a hundred pages long, that the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales is due to publish on 26 May. Like “The Common Good”, published in 1996, this new document too will review the social doctrine of the Church and express the point of view of the Bishops on the most important issues of life today, health and medical treatment, marriage and family life, infertility, abuses, divorce, medical research, euthanasia, war and violence. The new document will also contain precise references to the responsibilities of present-day British society, citizens and Christian Churches on issues relating to bioethics and the defence of life from conception to natural death.
