The European Commission has drawn up its first ‘Annual Report on progress made in the integration of the man-woman dimension in the various strategic sectors’. The Report, which will be presented to the Spring Summit of 25/26 March, underlines its concern about the fact that ‘the persistent inequalities between men and women in the EU could be prejudicial to the achievement of the Lisbon objectives’. In particular, the Lisbon Strategy set as its target the achievement of a minimum female employment rate of 60% by 2010: in 2003 this percentage was 55.6%, showing a slow but steady increase over the 50% registered in 1990. Significant disparities continue to exist in terms of wage differentials, career prospects, the reconciliation between private and professional life, and female representation in decision-making processes. The Report draws attention, however, to the progress made in the last few years, such as the clear reduction of inequalities in the public sector and the constant increase of the number of women diplomats (55% of the total). ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1276 N.ro relativo : 16 Data pubblicazione : 03/03/2004
