According to UNHCR, 465,000 asylum applications were submitted in Europe in 2002. Of these, 381,000 were presented in EU member states. The European country that received most applications was the United Kingdom, with 110,00 applications, followed by Germany with 71,000 and France with 51,000; 7281 requests were presented in Italy, the only European country in which an organic law of the right to asylum is lacking.
