Spain: Our Lady of Pilar in Jerusalem” “

As every year, the Spanish community gathered in recent days in the church of the Holy Saviour, in the Christian quarter of Jerusalem, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Pilar. Present at the rite were the Consul General of Spain, José María Ferré, and other members of the Consulate and of International Cooperation. Various communities of nuns were also represented: the Missionary Daughters of Calvary, the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary, the Daughters of Charity and the Teresian Institute. The latter congregation dedicate their life in Jerusalem to every kind of educational, social and religious activity. Father Artemio Vítores, Vicar of the Custodianship of the Holy Land, presided over the eucharistic celebration in which local Catholics and journalists of various press agencies also participated. The concelebrant together with Father Vítores was the superior of the Community of the Holy Saviour, Father Jerzj Kraj from Poland. During his homily Father Vìtores reflected on the Christian heritage of Spanish culture that “can be traced back to the apostolic period”. “Given the present circumstances of Spanish society – he said – it is essential that the Government too protect this invaluable heritage, as a fundamental good. In this way – he added – the risk and the danger of the disintegration of the values of community and prosperity will be avoided”.
