Ten days for peace” “

In a joint press communiqué released on 5 October, the Catholic bishop of Fulda and president of Pax Christi Germania, Msg. Heinz Josef Algermissen, and the evangelical Lutheran bishop of Hanover, Margot Käßmann, appealed for participation in ten ecumenical days for peace. The initiative, which has reached its 25th year, will take place from 7 to 17 November with the slogan: “Let rights flow like water”. “At a time when throughout the world the use of violence and war as a supposed solution to conflict is increasing, we feel it is important to take time to reflect and think of peaceful alternatives for the resolution of conflicts”, says the communiqué. Among those taking part in the ecumenical forum of the ten days for peace initiative are: the working community of German Christian Churches (ACK), the “Service for Peace” association (AGDF), Pax Christi and the working community of Christian Youth (AEJ). At the centre of this year’s initiative is a concern for the respect of international law and human rights. At the request of groups, ecclesiastical communities, teachers of religion and helpers in youth associations, various materials have been prepared in support of the event: postcards, prayer books, CD-Roms, proposals for Eucharistic celebrations, etc.
