What role can religion have in the European mass media? The question will be debated in the conference accompanying this year’s Europe 2004 Prize. To be held in Berlin from 15 to 17 October, it will focus just on this theme. “We must tackle an exceptional question today says Susan Hoffmann, organizer of the conference and festival manager for the Europe Prize -, namely, how can the various cultures and religions construct Europe together, instead of just co-existing at a distance if not actually fighting between each other? What forces oppose or encourage this cohesion and what role do the media play in this inescapable process?”. Senior executives of television channels from all over Europe and representatives of European institutions will intervene. The Conference is being held in collaboration with the Council of local and regional authorities of the Council of Europe, the European Broadcasting Union and the European Festival for TV, Radio and Internet.
