Meeting of the delegates of the Episcopal Conferences for vocations (1-4), on the theme “Lord, what must I do? The vocational guidance of youth in Europe today”, Strasbourg. The Netherlands takes over the revolving Presidency of the European Council. 2 Study assembly of the European Forum of National Committees of the Laity (2-7), on “The spiritual and ethical roots of our commitment to European societies”, at Fatima. 7 Parliament of the World’s Religions (7-13), at Barcelona, as part of the “Universal Forum of Cultures”. 11 St. Benedict abbot, co-patron of Europe together with Saints Cyril and Methodius. Celebration for the 50th anniversary of the consecration of the Basilica of Lisieux, in France. Seminar promoted by the Society of Jesus (11-15), on “Evangelization and development. A re-reading of the Mission ad gentes”, at Javier (Spain). 23 Feast of St. Bridget (Birgitta), Swedish nun, co-patron of Europe. 25 Eucharistic celebration in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostella on the feast of the apostle St. James Major (“Santiago”), Patron of Spain. 29 Plenary session (29 July-6 August) of the “Faith and Constitution” Commission of the World Council of Churches (Wcc), at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). 31 “Path to Santiago” (31 July-5 August): Groups of European youth will walk various stretches of the pilgrimage route to Compostella, where the “European Youth Pilgrimage” will be held on 5-9 August, on the theme “Witnesses of Christ for a Europe of hope”.
