Brussels is stepping up its war on organized crime. The European Commission in fact adopted a Communication on the future strategy of common action on 2 June, with the title “Formulation of a strategic concept on the fight against organized crime”. The document has been submitted to the examination of the Council of Ministers of Justice and Internal Affairs and to the European Parliament. It contains two main recommendations: the first is an appeal to the bodies involved in the sector both at the national and EU level to formulate common methods for combating organized crime; the second concerns the creation of a shared system of European statistics on criminality, with homogeneous data and information on the criminals and the victims of crimes. The declared objective is to create a “European model of intelligence” on organized crime. website: http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/doc_centre/crime/doc/com_2005_232_fr.pdf
