The European launched its new five-year action plan for liberty, security and justice on 10 May. The Plan which contains inter alia detailed proposals in the sectors of terrorism, immigration, asylum, privacy and judicial cooperation is based on the principles of “prosperity, solidarity and security”. There are ten priority area in the Plan: fundamental rights and citizenship; war against terrorism; immigration controls; internal frontiers, external frontiers and visas; common areas of asylum; integration (positive impact of immigration on European society and economy); privacy and security in the exchange of information; fight against organized crime; civil and penal justice (an effective European area of justice for all); liberty, security and justice (sharing of responsibility and solidarity). With a view to the implementation of the measures indicated in the Plan, the Commission will avail itself of a framework programme that will use specific funds for external frontiers, refugees, integration and repatriation procedures.
