Spanish Catholic youth will participate in an act of homage to Pope John Paul II on 3 May. A ceremony of thanksgiving for the election of the new Pope Benedict XVI will also be celebrated during the rite. The archdiocese of Madrid, that is organizing the event in liaison with the diocesan youth pastoral office and in collaboration with the national Department of youth ministry, announced the celebration on 27 April. Not only the youth of Madrid, but also youth from throughout Spain and members of the various youth movements, associations and parishes, will be invited to participate. The event will be held in the Colegio Obispo Perellò at 8.30 pm on 3 May and will be presided over by Cardinal Antonio M. Rouco Varela, archbishop of Madrid, and by the Nuncio of the Holy See in Spain, Msgr. Manuel Monteiro.
