The capital of Greece, Athens, will host the World Conference on Mission and Evangelization promoted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) from 9 to 16 May. News of the event was carried by the APIC Catholic international press agency, which also announced the participation of delegations of the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and Pentecostal and evangelic missionary organizations. Over 500 participants are expected to attend. All denominations will participate with an equal number of delegates. The aim of the Conference will be to formulate “a common vision for the future of the Christian mission. During its last conference on mission, held in Salvador de Bahia, in Brazil in 1996, the WCC reaffirmed “its opposition to proselytism and the need for cooperation in common witness”.
