The European Commission has published a document on “Better regulation and thematic strategies for the environment”, with which it intends to begin the reform of EU legislation on the environment. Simplification and efficiency are the two keywords that should be applied in the months ahead to the seven thematic strategies of the 6th EU Action Plan in the field of the environment: atmospheric pollution, sustainable use of resources, human environment, marine environment, prevention and recycling of refuse, protection of the soil and eco-compatible use of pesticides. The Executive proposes to present, by next spring, a Communication, some legislative proposals and an evaluation of the impact of the future environmental reform also on the economic and social level. The document, completely downloadable from the website of the EU, http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/environment/index_it.htm, anticipates the conducting of the widest possible consultation of all interested parties in order to “concert” the reform.
