The liturgical institutes of Germany, Austria and Switzerland published a brochure containing ten models and aids for the commemoration of the dead in parishes on 21 October. The models, which represent various situations (especially tragic cases, the death of newborn infants, death at advanced age, and commemoration of the dead on the feast of All Saints), are especially intended for lectors and for those who officiate the liturgical celebrations. The brochure contains an appendix with introductory texts, invocations of the Kyrie, prayers and hymns. The idea for the publication came from the consideration that “for the Church, the accompaniment of the terminally ill and those in mourning for the death of loved ones, preoccupation for the deceased and the realization of the liturgy in commemoration of the dead are a clear sign of a living faith”. The brochure declares that “this Christian culture of commemoration finds its most valid expression in prayer and eucharistic celebration”.
