“The Prize named after Cardinal König has been awarded this year to the auxiliary Bosnian bishop Pero Sudar. The bishop has been honoured in this way in recognition of the foundation and direction of the schools for Europe in Sarajevo, in which children of various ethnic and religious provenance are educated in the spirit of tolerance and co-existence. The prize of 10,000 euros is awarded by the “Communio et Progressio” Foundation. It was presented to Sudar by the diocesan bishop of Graz Egon Kapellari at a ceremony in Vienna on 20 October. The former General Secretary of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Albert Rohan, was present. The Bosnian ambassador in Vienna, Daria Krsticevic, also spoke. The late Cardinal Franz König had personally supported the activity of the schools for Europe in Sarajevo with his own funds, since he saw in them a great “sign of hope” in that “martyred country”.
